RSPB Arne walk 19th September 2026

Birds . Field Trip

This walk was led by Julian Moseley. Below is Julian’s account:
A meeting in the welcome car park saw all 12 members trudge off to circuit the reserve. The day was dry and cool but slightly overcast and the list for the day started with Robin, Wren and Blue Tit but the harsh, crackling calls of Sandwich Terns alerted us to their presence on the shore. Accompanying them were Oystercatcher, several Curlew, the inevitable Little Egret, a couple of Great White and a few Grey Heron. A number of Shelduck proved that not all of them disappear to the Dutch coast for the autumn moult and Black Tailed Godwit were also feeding on the exposed mud. Lunch in the Harbour hide was complemented by the discovery of a sitting Osprey on the other side of the estuary. Land birds were augmented by Pied Wagtail, Wood Pigeon, Magpie and the regular presence of corvids, mostly Carrion Crows and Jackdaws. We wandered back (eventually) to the visitor centre.
