Field Trip – Sandy Point Nature Reserve, Hayling Island

Hampshire County Council have kindly granted us an opportunity to visit this public restricted nature reserve. Sandy Point forms part of the Chichester Harbour SSSI and has a unique mosaic of habitats including dune, dune-heath, shingle, grassland and scrub. Cattle are used to graze the site, supplemented by manual scrub maintenance. The site is particularly known for its rich flora and its diverse lichen communities.

If time allows we will also venture to Black Point

Meet Point: reserve gate on Seafarers Walk

Parking is very limited on Seafarers Walk but recommended roadside parking can be found on Itchenor Road. Advice would be to park here and walk to the reserve entrance on Seafarers Walk.
